Built by someone who did the work

Prospect Sprint is run by Tom, a foundation-relations professional. He built this because the tools he had to use were expensive, slow, and built for organizations with full-time research staff.

Why this exists

Most small nonprofits skip prospect research because the options are wrong: bloated subscription databases that cost thousands a year, or dozens of hours spent clicking through foundation websites that may not even exist.

The idea came from inside nonprofit development: watching teams pay for tools they didn't have time to use, or skip the work entirely because they couldn't afford help.

So I built a simpler alternative. One brief, one price, sourced from public filings, reviewed by a person.

How we work

Every brief starts with IRS Form 990-PF filings, the annual tax returns private foundations are legally required to file. The most valuable section is Part XV, Line 3a, which lists every grant paid during the year, including the recipient, purpose, and amount.

We process 1.87 million of these grant records to identify foundations that are actively giving now, fund organizations similar to yours by cause, size, and region, and do not already appear in your nonprofit's own 990 filings.

Then a person reviews the matches, writes fit notes, identifies application paths, and cites the exact filing each prospect came from.

Operating principles

Public data only

We do not scrape private sources, buy contact lists, or use undisclosed data. Every claim traces to a public IRS filing.

Human review

The matching is assisted by code; the judgment is done by a person. Every brief is reviewed before it is sent.

No subscription

You buy a brief when you need one. There is no annual contract, no seat fee, and no login. One flat price: $299 for a custom prospect brief, built from your 990 filings. One-time, no subscription.

Donor-list privacy

If you share your existing funder list for exclusion purposes, we use it only for that purpose. We do not sell, share, or retain it.

Who it is for

Small US nonprofits without a full-time prospect researcher. Development directors who need a shortlist they can act on. Consultants who want a research partner they can resell into engagements.

The first 3 matches arrive free by email, complete with names, specific fit reasons, grant size ranges, and application path.

What I promise

I will not oversell what a brief can do. It is a starting list of foundations worth your time, not a guarantee of funding. Scoring is deterministic and inspectable; every recommendation carries written reason codes. Application paths come only from verified data; never invented.

If the brief does not surface foundations worth pursuing, reply within 14 days for a full refund. No forms, no argument.
